P.S. I should add that a decade or 2 ago, I wrote a letter to a newspaper expressing my views re: euthanasia. Predictably the rag didn't publish it. It can be found somewhere at THT, not sure where. Haven't looked at it in many years, but possibly would now alter (make even stronger) its already (I'm pretty sure) absolutely endorsing position on self-deliverance. I wrote it for a rag, so may have slighty toned down a point or 2, at least one anyway, regarding how accessible mercy-killing should be to the very young. I believe any conscious and feeling creature suffering brutal pain, in mind or body or both, should be helped to exit life painlessly. Even just on the basis of their word, their express wish, they should be helped to--even in the absence of any visible evidence of their internal affairs. People own themselves, no one else owns them, and thus we have an undeniable right to choose whether to be present or not. It is an outrageous crime, an unforgivable theft, for others to presume to know best about how to dispose of one's most personal property. And it is more outrageous still that people seek to enforce their presumed authority in such matters. No one should ever be treated as a possession of the human species; we are not chattel. We are members of the human species, we are not possessions of it.

Thx for including me under this topic, an all-important one. I commend to everyone's attention Derek Humphry's book Final Exit, which contains recipes for anyone forced, by society's refusal to endorse departure from life when it has become too painful or unendurable, for self-euthanization, or "self-deliverance" as he calls it. The latest edition I know of came out in 1991. There may be newer editions. Derek H headed The Hemlock Society for a long time. All I have time for at the moment so thx again.
