Goethe was a particularly fine German poet, and 'For the Moon' is a particularly fine poem in which he details how the beauty of the moon banishes his former feelings of despair and dejection regarding what he calls 'earth's frigid chains'. Beautifully written! Beautifully translated!

'Bathing valley, hill and dale

with her softening light,

loosening from earth’s frigid chains

my restless heart tonight!'
