OUR CANNIBAL UNIVERSE
Forget dark energy, because I propose something far darker...
OUR CANNIBAL UNIVERSE
by Michael R. Burch
And god said, “Let there be Light
and let it be a cannibal, though might is not right.”

If my personal theory is correct, we can forget “dark energy” to focus on something far darker — a cannibal universe devouring “baby” universes like an alpha male lion devouring its competitors’ cubs.
I have come up with a theory — not entirely original but perhaps the name is — that we live in a cannibal universe that is devouring all or parts of other universes.
While I had hoped to be entirely original, I did some research and other theorists beat me to the punch.
But I may have come up with a cooler name!
OUR CANNIBAL UNIVERSE
It has an nice, eerie ring to it, no?
Thanks to the J. Webb deep space telescope, astronomers keep finding ancient galaxies that are much older, bigger and more complex than they should be, according to the Big Bang theory.
But what if these ancient galaxies were part of an even older universe that our cannibal universe keeps expanding into, and swallowing?
The mass of galaxies outside our universe could be the explanation for our universe’s expansion speeding up, rather than slowing down due to its own internal gravity.
If this is true, it suggests that, as immense as our universe it, there is a lot more mass outside than within.
Are we being tugged at by the gravity of galaxies that existed before the Big Bang?
Furthermore, is it possible that the Big Bang was triggered by our universe originally being a black hole that continually swallowed foreign matter until it reached a critical mass, then exploded, like a balloon exploding when too much helium is pumped in?
It sounds like the plot for a sci-fi movie, but I think the idea has merit.

Downright Lovecraftian, sir. (And, coming from me, that too is a compliment.)
There was a time
When I was too young
To be bothered
About the existence
Of the universe
Now I am too old
To be worried
About its fate
