"Goddess" is a totally stunning poem, and I can understand perfectly why a poet of Kevin Robert's ability and taste would want it the first issue of Romantics Quarterly. Interestingly, your translation of those fine fragments from "Gilgamesh" ends with the same words, "I Am!"

Goddess

for Kevin N. Roberts

"What will you conceive in me?"

I asked her. But she

only smiled.

"Naked, I bore your child

when the wolf wind howled,

when the cold moon scowled . . .

naked, and gladly."

"What will become of me?"

I asked her, as she

absently stroked my hand.

Centuries later, I understand;

she whispered, "I Am."

Delighted also that you included a poem for our friend Geraldine here on Substack. I will quote that here because it's rather good and captures her to some degree.

Geraldine in her pj's

for Geraldine A. V. Hughes

Geraldine in her pj's

checks her security relays,

sits down armed with a skillet,

mutters, "Intruder? I'll kill it!"

Then, as satellites wink high above,

she turns to her poets with love.

Nor ever will. Not from them will ever come release, unless there's an evolutionary miracle. Much more likely to come from lucky accident, some providential snuffing. "Erase, erase, erase,' a consummation devoutly to be wished, and possible at least. Just a matter of time no doubt. Time conquers all.
