“Safe Harbor” is a commentary on writing romantic poetry in the 21st century, which the speaker sees as the wrong era for such an endeavour … that it is in fact “a century late to be melancholy”.
Rather touchingly, it is dedicated to Kevin Nicholas Roberts the founder and first editor of the poetry journal, Romantics Quarterly, who died in 2008, aged 39.
