I have read 14 different volumes of Sappho’s collected poems and fragments in translation. In my opinion, no translator has ever done it as well as Mike Burch. He and Sappho are a perfect match, and the work attests to that:

loose translation Michael R. Burch

These are incredible. I can only claim to have studied the epic of Gilgamesh with a scholar but heard and read Sappho’s poems when I was young.

So beautiful. The length of this post leads me to send it my computer and print it to read. Is that something you would allow me to do?
