I read "Lasr Night" by Faiz Ahmed Faiz and knew it was good because I wished instantly that I had written it. It just stole into my heart.

Last Night

by Faiz Ahmed Faiz

loose translation/interpretation by Michael R. Burch

Last night, your memory stole into my heart―

as spring sweeps uninvited into barren gardens,

as morning breezes reinvigorate dormant deserts,

as a patient suddenly feels better, for no apparent reason …

That is a good 'un, no doubt.

I will be honored to do more translations and dedicate them to you.

Should I make the dedication to Lishaelle or some other name?

I have made the dedication to the only name I know, Lishaelle.

I translated the Faiz poem you mentioned and several couplets and a short poem by Elia. You can find the new poems by searching the Urdu poetry page for your name.

Please do let me know what you think in the comments. Suggestions for improvements are always welcome.
