'We Sat Down' by the somewhat neglected French poet, Renee Vivienne, is a very fine poem that is descriptive, atmospheric, and infused with impassioned feelings of intimacy and connection for another lesbian poet(?) - while wandering together from dawn to night fall in a strange, oppressive city. I particularly like these revealing lines:

'As night fell, we sat down,

Your drab dress grey as any evening,

To feel the friendly freshness of kisses.

No longer alone in the universe,

We exchanged lovely verses with languor.'

Renee Vivien is one of my favorite neglected poets.
